Freightliner Columbia Roll Stability Control

Did you know that the Freightliner Columbia offers a factory supplied option of the Freightliner Roll Stability Control System (RSC). RSC reduces the risk of a vehicle rollover in extreme cornering or evasive manoeuvres, especially for vehicles with a high centre of gravity that are more susceptible. Roll Stability Control (RSC) is an active vehicle safety system that automatically intervenes if a high rollover risk is detected while driving. If a rollover threat is occurring, the system intervenes and assists the driver in minimizing the rollover risk by automatically reducing vehicle speed.
Roll Stability Control is designed specifically for your truck or tractor to help maintain vehicle stability and aid in reducing vehicle rollovers. RSC continuously checks and updates the lateral acceleration of the tractor and compares it to a critical threshold where rollover may occur. When the critical threshold is exceeded, RSC intervenes by reducing engine torque, and engaging the engine retarder, while automatically applying drive axle and trailer brakes. Frequently, activation takes place before the driver is aware of the need. RSC is integral to the anti-lock braking system (ABS) and automatic traction control (ATC) requiring only one additional valve for operation.

Features & Benefits
Monitors the vehicle’s rollover threshold and activates to slow the vehicle when the threshold is exceeded. After the conditions cease, normal vehicle operation resumes.
ECU has data recording capabilities for various functions.
RSC is designed to assist drivers in managing the conditions that may result in vehicle rollovers. For fleets and end-users, this can translate into dollars and cents. Consider the time and money that may be lost to:
Downtime caused by vehicle rollover
Vehicle and cargo replacements
Clean-up costs and possible fines
Insurance costs
Customer goodwill and jeopardized future business
